About Me

I know it’s not exactly the best time of the year to talk about walleye fishing or any type of fishing but you have to start sometime.  Once Spring rolls around I can promise that this blog will be full of detailed fishing reports and stories.

I suppose I should add a few things about myself here.  My name is Mark Schaller and I am a die hard Detroit River Walleye Fisherman.  I was fortunate to have a Father and Grandfather who loved to fish and they took me along on just about every trip.  I can remember trips out into Lake Michigan in the same boat I own today for Lake Trout and Coho Salmon.  They instilled in me a passion for fishing that still lives on today.  My family has quite a history when it comes to the St. Clair and Detroit River.  My Great Grandmother on my Dad’s side was one of the founding family members of Ecorse and eventually her daughter and my Grandfather owned a marina (Schaller Marina) in Wyandotte during the 50’s and 60’s.  My Grandfather’s older brother Ed and his younger brother Hank developed the Schaller Automatic Trolling Reel used to handline for walleye on the St. Clair & Detroit river system.  I still use my reel along with quite a few other fishermen.

When I am not fishing I also go kayaking, geo-caching, camping, hiking, biking and a little small game hunting when I can.  I don’t get a lot of free time but when I do I try to spend it outdoors as much as possible.
