To the casual reader this could imply anything but for a devoted walleye fisherman it means only one thing. Will this be the year I finally catch my wall hanger? For over 35 years I have been trying to catch the ever elusive 30 inch, 10 pound plus walleye. Every year I hear of someone else who catches one and every year it isn’t me. I’ve come close but no cigar. I’ll admit I get lazy about it and don’t put in no where near the same hours some people do but even a blind squirrel eventually finds a nut. In the mean time I have a few months to re-stock, plan, dream and come up with more excuses for the new year.
I’m sure there’s a “biggie” in your future. Keep trying.
Try handlining if you know how 😉 it will up your odds of getting that ever elusive wallhanger! Good Luck
I believe as Jerry does, handlining is the answer, but getting those big ones in the boat is difficult if your alone. I couldn’t tell you how many wallhangers I’ve lost at the boat deciding net or not?
I’ve lost a few but never because of a net issue. It alwasy seems to be about 10 feet back off the stern of the boat. I get them to the surface just in time to see the lure come flying back at me.
I wonder how many went fishing today. I saw one truck towing a boat, stop in at the bait and tackle box this morning
I know of one that was headed to Flat Rock to try for some Steel. I thought about perch fishing in the morning but the to-do list got a little out of hand.
Spring time is the time to be optimistic about the coming seasons possibilities, by fall you should be tuned in and looking for that wall mounter. Seems i have better luck picking up a 10 + in fall when alot of guys are in their treestand or groundblind. Springtime can be a zoo with tournaments and nomad fishermen coming to the area to try for the very 10 + pound fish we are looking for!!
Actually the biggest walleye I have caught have all come in the fall. Just nothing big enough.
